US Freeskiing Nationals Live Webcast at Snowbird
Today is the first day of the Freeskiing World Tour event at Snowbird, Utah. The event will be broadcasted live via webcast today and Saturday. The webcast will be going live at 12pm MST.
Date: December 29, 2008 - January 29, 2009 Location: Snowbird, UT Featuring: Me (Jake Kirshner), Nik Aksamitn, Dex Mills, Brady Newton, Alex Mazurkewycz
Things I have learned in the last month.
1) Getting skiing "out of your system" over winter break is damn near impossible
2) You don't have enough control unless your boots feel like a tourture device
3) High Pressure doesn't have to be all bad
Even though a high pressure system was in Salt Lake for about two weeks during January and made the entire town look like that Steven King book, The Fog (or the Mist or whatever, I forgot the actual title) the skiing at still remained pretty good.
Although, I was the first to drop to praise Ullr when the snow finally returned last week...
But wait! There's more... Pictures
As a bonus for the extra amount of time it took me to upload this, here are some pictures taken with awesome ski photog Adam Barker (http://www.adambarkerphotography.com/) in early January.
Adam and I find some powder off Lone Pine.
I can ski with the sun in my eyes.
Adam shoots my skiing from the 3rd person perspective.
Tuesday was my perfect day. I had the biggest dumb grin on my face every turn and my teeth were all sparkly from all the snow hitting me in the face. This all occurred while the tram was closed too! Maybe there is life beyond the tram for me...
With close to a foot of fresh Snow and the Cirque Traverse finally open it is finally starting to feel like winter again at Snowbird. Seems like a good time to start jumping off stuff =) Watch your landings thought! Chocolate Chip rock are still abundant!

Camera was a bit jittery on this go through due to some chunky snow conditions. I decided to keep it short to avoid repetitive shots. Working on a better mounting technique to minimize the shake.
This is my first attempt at shooting helmet cam footage with my V.I.O. POV.1.
Some Notes: Most of the footage was shot Sunday so the snow is really crusty (hence the shakyness of the camera) and this is my first go at Final Cut Studio 2 and using a helmet cam (hence the poor angle in some of the shots). I expect the quality of the footage and editing to improve as I get better at this.

Kyajo Ri Climb and Sherpa donation
In the fall of 2007 Backcountry.com customer Connie Garret of Bozeman, MT set out to climb a mountain in Nepal. More than that she set out
to change some lives by taking 200lbs of collected outdoor clothing to the Sherpa of the Kumbu Region. Here are her photos from that trip.
